I’m trying to stay above the water,
Even though the stabbing cold of the waves cut me
Even though the force tries to drag me down
Even though letting go now would be so easy
I’m trying to stay above the water
It’s freezing my body, hurting so much
But I know I’ll get used to it after it numbs me.
It’ll still be there cold as ever but I won’t feel it so much.
This part is hardest, getting used to the change
So I try and stay above the water
Kicking hard and breathing calmly, fooling the water
Making it think I’m okay, I can cope with this
Until the boat comes back for me
It would never really leave me for long
I’m so glad I stayed above the water
